WHITCHURCH Cricket Club’s hopes of bouncing back to the Birmingham League at the first attempt have been dealt a cruel blow with the news that talismanic all-rounder Maisam Hasnain has left Heath Road.

Hasnain, universally known as Maz, has moved to Shropshire rivals Newport, who maintained their place in Division Three of the Birmingham set-up last season after winning the county league the year before.

Iain Marsh, chairman of cricket at Whitchurch, said: “I can confirm Maz has left to join Newport.

"Maz’s record for this club has been second to none – he is best batsman ever to play for us, and also an outstanding bowler.

“The whole club, and myself personally, would like to thank him for 17  years of magnificent service and wish him and his family all the best for the future.”
