A PETITION has been launched calling on Malpas Parish Council to find a new home for the community minibus.
It had been hoped that the service, which will assist in providing local residents with an alternative means of transport to buses, would be able to base the vehicle at Craddock Court.
The council had approached Sanctuary Housing, which runs Craddock Court, asking for permission to build a shelter, leading to the loss of three visitor parking spaces.
But Craddock Court resident Nevil Eaton is urging Sanctuary to refuse the proposal and his petition has already received the backing of seven people in a day.
He told the Herald: “The council already has problems with parking in Malpas and they are proposing to take three parking spaces off the visitors – it’s absolutely stupid.”
The petition is available on the noticeboard in Craddock Court and Mr Eaton said he was pleased with the support so far.
Councillor Charles Higgie, chairman of Malpas Parish Council, said: “The council is holding a meeting on Monday and anyone with views on this is welcome to come and use the public forum.”
Christa Ripley, head of operations at Sanctuary Housing, said: “We are currently consulting residents at Crad-dock Court about this proposal.
“We can reassure residents that we will make our decision based on the majority view expressed in the responses we receive and that we will share the outcome with them in the next few days.”
