FAST bowler Dan Bowen has returned to his home-town club Whitchurch to give a major boost to the team’s hopes of bouncing back to the Birmingham Cricket League at the first attempt.

Bowen goes back to Whitchurch from Oswestry, where he has spent the past three seasons.

The 28-year-old paceman, who has opened the bowling many times for Shropshire in both the Minor Counties and one-day competitions, has also played a couple of seasons with Shropshire’s leading side, Shrewsbury, since leaving the club where he played in his formative years.

Whitchurch chairman of cricket Iain Marsh said: “Dan’s signing has been ongoing since the end of last season and with him moving back to live in Whitchurch in the next couple of weeks, he’s confirmed he will be returning to us.

"He will lead the bowling attack as we aim to return  to the Birmingham League at the first time of asking.

“Dan will be joined in the first team by his younger brother Elliot, who has recently changed job – so he should be available most weeks.

“Their dad Simon will still play in the first team when he is available.”

Whitchurch will take on Oswestry, who currently play two leagues above them, in a pre-season friendly at Heath Road on Saturday, April 22.

The second team will travel to Morda Road to play Oswestry Seconds on the same day.

Whitchurch  start their Shropshire League first-team fixtures the following week with a trip to Frankton.

Marsh also revealed that Dave Marvell will captain the Whitchurch third team, where he plans to give as many youngsters as possible the chance to play on Sundays.
