A man from Malpas was involved in a police chase and crashed his vehicle while his pregnant girlfriend was inside.

Daniel McAuley-Jones was jailed for 16 months after he was found guilty of dangerous driving and driving without insurance.

The 33-year-old, of Cross O' Th' Hill Road in Malpas, was already disqualified from driving when he failed to stop for police on January 27.

He has also been disqualified for a further three years and eight months following the hearing at Chester Crown Court.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “Both occupants failed to have their seat belts on and were extremely lucky when the vehicle they were travelling in lost control and crashed outside the Cock O’Barton public house.”

Following a brief chase on foot, McAuley-Jones was detained and arrested seeking refuge in a nearby house.

Both he and his girlfriend had minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The police spokesperson added: “We would like to thank the patience and support of everyone in the area at the time, including the staff and management at the Cock O’Barton as this incident impacted on them for some time.”
