COUNCILLORS in Whitchurch will discuss tomorrow whether to allocate £30,000 towards the building of a skate park in the town.

The proposals for the skate park – which was to be built in Jubilee Park – have been on the table for many months, with funding plans and applications rejected in the past.

However, councillors will be asked to consider whether they will be able to donate the money from the Neighbourhood Fund.

The skate park hit its last main stumbling block last summer but with £16,000 of funding already set aside by the Next Generation Youth Group, it is hoped  Whitchurch Town Council would be able to support it.

Meanwhile, a number of other grant applications made to the council will also be considered.

With the May elections just weeks away, councillors will receive an update on the process so far, while they will also appoint an internal auditor for 2016/17’s accounts.

Other items on the agenda include receiving correspondence from Whitchurch Library, Whitchurch Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society and NHS England, plus a thank-you letter from Blackberry Fair.

A number of items surrounding the Civic Centre will also be discussed by councillors, including a progress report for the working party.

The installation of LED screens for marketing purposes and a coffee machine in the Civic Centre’s foyer will also come under consideration from councillors.

Blinds for the upstairs function room, essential lift repairs and electrical safety testing for the Market Hall will also be discussed.

Planning for the Christmas Lights switch-on in November, 2017 will also start at the meeting, as well as councillors reporting back from outside organisations and council committees.

There will be two items in confidential – staffing and commissioning. Press and public will be excluded from this part of the meeting, which starts at 7.15pm.
