THE ACTING headteacher of Tilstock Primary School believes the ‘Good’ rating it has received following a Church of England inspection shows it has progressed.

The school was labelled inadequate in 2016 by Ofsted following a spot inspection, but the Church of England Education Office gave it an improved rating this month.

Nicola Brayford, who is in temporary charge at the school, is delighted her staff’s hard work and determination over the past year has paid off.

“The report recognises the school is in a much stronger position than at the last Ofsted inspection when the school was judged to be inadequate,” she said.

“The children, parents, staff and members of the governing board are delighted to receive such a positive report, which recognises all the hard work and dedication to the school and the children during the past 12 months.

“The report is an important milestone for the school and will enable us to continue to build on its success in the future.”

The inspection focused on the distinctiveness and effectiveness of the school as a Church of England school.

The inspector found ‘the school, throughout its distinctive Christian character, is good at meeting the needs of all learners’ and highlighted the excellent support given to children and their families and the rich curriculum and range of extra-curricular activities that enable pupils to progress.

The behaviour of the children was found to be good and they were seen to co-operate well.

The inspector praised the leadership team within the school and their positive impact on the rate of progress across the range of subjects.

The report added that a strong partnership with parents, the church and village community was seen to bind the school together.
