WEM ROTARY Club held its annual canal boat trips with a high number of elderly people enjoying the journeys.

The trips, run over four days, saw plenty of pensioners enjoying them for the first time as they were picked up from their homes by Rotarians and taken to Lyneal Wharf.

They were taken out for the day on the Lyneal Trusts ‘Shropshire Lad’ which has a hydraulic platform for wheelchair and disabled persons access.

They headed to the Narrow Boat Inn at Welsh Frankton for a pub lunch. Afterwards they headed back to Lyneal Wharf where they relished the bonus of ice creams to cool them in a heatwave.

The outcome was 40 happy people; the outing of the year for some of them. This is Rotary community service at its best.

Rotarian Roger Ashton, community coordinator thanks all Rotarians who helped make this a success including Dee Moyse, Jean Cooley, John Tullett, Fred Clarke, Phoebe Ashton, and Peter Jones a Lyneal Trust supporter and skipper.
