FIREFIGHTERS from Market Drayton have shared the dramatic images of a tractor fire in Wollerton on Tuesday evening.
The incident was reported at around 7pm, in a field off Wood Lane, with firefighters from Market Drayton assisting colleagues from Hodnet.
A firefighter from Market Drayton described the incident.
"At 7.09pm on Tuesday evening the 4x4 Incident Support Unit from Market Drayton, was mobilised to provide assistance to our colleagues from Hodnet, who were attending a report of a tractor on fire in a field in the Wollerton area," they said.
"On arrival at the scene the crew from Hodnet discovered a tractor which was fully involved in fire, which was located in a field some distance from the nearest hard standing.
"Due to there being no access for the major appliance the incident commander from Hodnet requested the attendance of an off road vehicle.
"On arrival of the Incident Support Unit (ISU), a light portable pump was transported into the field, which was set into an area of open water and used to provide a handheld main jet to extinguish the fire.
"The crews had the fire under control in approximately ten minutes of establishing a water supply to the fire ground, they remained on scene for a further hour damping down and ensuring there were no remaining hotspots.
"Unfortunately the tractor has been severely damaged by fire.
"We are pleased to report that there were no persons injured at this incident, the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental resulting from either an electrical or mechanical defect."
