Donald Morris (Don Garreg Ddu) - who lived at Tan Llan, Llanrhaedr Ym Mochnant passed away at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital on 15th April 2011, aged 84 years.
He leaves wife Eunice, sons and daughters Rich, Tom, Ann and Del.
Don was born in Gwernfeifod, Llanrhaedr, one of five children born to Richard Alfred and Florence Emily Morris.The family moved to Garreg Ddu in 1934 where Don remained and married Eunice in 1957 and raised their four children until moving to the village in 2006. Don worked on many farms in the area during his lifetime as well as being involved in local pony trekking and sheep dog trails. He was a well known character in the area before becoming a favourite on ''Cefn Gwlad'' in 1986. He was a keen supporter of village events and concerts and a life long member of Seion Chapel, where he was a Deacon for over twenty years. Don enjoyed all aspects of country life and loved watching wrestling matches when they were staged locally, even stepping into the ring on occasion! He will be sadly missed by all his family and many friends.
A service was held at Seion Chapel, Llanrhaeadr Ym Mochant on Saturday 23rd April, he was buried at Llanrhaedr Ym Mochant Cemetery. The service was led by Reverend Gwyndaf Richards assisted by Reverend Raymond Hughes and Thomas Morris, Trewern, organist Mrs Julia Evans, ushers were Gron Edwards, Gwylfa Edwards, Robin Jones and Tegwyn Jones. Bearers were Gwilym Owen, Hywel Morris, Roger Morris and Meirion Edwards.
Family mourners were Mrs Eunice Morris wife, Rich and Julia, Tom and Del, sons and daughters in law, Ann and Huw daughter and son in law, grandchildren Barry, Helen, Leanne, Rhian, Bethan, Aaron, Ffion and Emily, great granddaughter Isla-Sian, Eric and Dilys brother and sister in law, Christine and Gwyneth sisters in law numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
The family wish to thank everyone for their kindness at this sad time, for the many cards, large attendance at the funeral and the generous donations received amounting to over £2000 to be shared between Seion Chapel, Llanrhaeadr surgery and The Wales Air Ambulance.
Special thanks to Rev. Gwyndaf Richards, Rev. Raymond Hughes and Thomas Morris for the service; Julia Evans for playing the organ, presentor Thomas Morris, Greta Jones for refreshments; Bob and Del Williams for organising the car parking; Lloyd Jones for the use of his field and to I.
