CHARLES H. BIRCH - Born November 7, 1923 died August 6, 2011. Charles was born near Llangollen, North Wales, where he was educated. He left school in 1941 to join the Royal Naval Air Service (Fleet Air Arm) to become a pilot serving in WW II, stationed in Great Britain, Canada and Australia. After ending his military service in 1946, Charles took up teaching as a career and taught for twenty years as a teacher in the National School, Oswestry. During this time, Charles was married to his first wife Helen, who passed away in 1967. After emigrating to Canada in 1969, Charles worked as a teacher and junior school headmaster at St. Michaels University School until his retirement in 1985. Following his retirement, Charles moved to Sidney, BC and then Qualicum Beach, where he lived for the last 20 years.
He was known to all for his sense of fairness and offbeat sense of humour.
He leaves his loving and devoted wife Kate (Kit), sons Andy and Rowan, daughter Julie, grandchildren Luke, Ted, Scott and Samantha, and great-grandchildren Liam, Emma, Sophie and Anna.
