Eluned
Davies-Jones - Mrs Eluned Davies-Jones or Lyn as she was known to family and friends died on June 28th after a very difficult last five months.
Lyn was a member of a very talented musical family from Llanrhaeadr. She qualified as a teacher and went on to teach in many schools in the area but it was obvious that her special talent lay in music and to further that she went on to work for and gain her A.L.C.M. degree. But even before that, and certainly more so afterwards, she was very much in demand as an accompanist at many prestigious concerts and eisteddfods, particularly for her ability to accommodate the special individual needs of the performer.
In the last 30 years, her talents had been centred more on her local village choir - The Llanrhaeadr Mixed Choir - Cor Dyffryn Tanat. Under her leadership, they enjoyed taking part in many of the local eisteddfodau and also the Powys and National Eisteddfodau; and successful or otherwise, they sang with great enjoyment and 'hwyl' at all times! They also sang at the Royal Albert Hall in the massed Music Festival with great aplomb. Conducting more than one programme of Hymn Singing fro the village for the Welsh TV station was another of her achievements.
Regardless however of all her major successes which came her way, she was always prepared to help out whatever she was needed and went on to accompany at much lower profile local Eisteddfodau and there must be many parents in the area who would vouchsafe for the help and support that she has given to them and their children with her selfless tuition and her interest in the youngsters participation in the Urdd Eisteddfod.
All this had been achieved in spite of being diagnosed with diabetes more than fifty years ago and because of her resilience and determination not to let the complaint control her life, she was presented with a Special Award by the Diabetic Society, given to those who have survived for longer than that period of time on a daily (more recently 2/3) injections of insulin.
Choir members may have feared for her health sometimes during their rehearsals, but she would not give in. Carols under the Christmas Tree on the Village Square of course! ' Just get me there, I'll be fine' Playing the organ in chapel and having to climb the stairs! 'No problem just help me up there and I'll manage' her last effort of course being in January, just before she was admitted to hospital when she was determined to respond to a request that she would play at a funeral of one of the villagers.
A truly indomitable spirit! She will be sadly missed.
