Published on 18/04/2017

Blomer - Rita Marjory (nee Rudge) Born March 6, 1939 in Smethwick, England It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Rita Marjory Blomer on the evening of April 3, 2017 from complications due to Vascular Dementia.

Born March 6, 1939 in Smethwick, UK, Rita moved to Zimbabwe in 1955 with her parents. She lived there until 1973 where she loved the country, people and animals. In 1973 she moved with her husband Clive Blomer and two young daughters Louise and Yvonne to Canada. The family lived in Calgary, AB, Cranbrook, B.C. and Sherwood Park AB before settling in Nanaimo, B.C.

With her husband, Rita co-managed Haida Welding Supplies until her retirement in 1996. Rita travelled extensively with her family, most recently to Disneyland, Puerto Vallarta and Hawaii with her daughters and their children and to Dubai, India, South Africa, France and England with her husband Clive. Rita will be remembered for her beautiful laugh and bright smile, her intelligence and ability to succeed at anything being archery in Zimbabwe or yoga, pottery and painting after retirement. Even after being diagnosed with dementia, Rita brought light and laughter to every family event from singing Christmas Carols to dancing with her grandkids from a wheelchair in Disneyland.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years S. Clive Blomer and her daughters Louise Blomer and Yvonne Blomer and son-in-law Rupert Gadd and grandchildren Nathaniel Wood, Isabel Wood and Colwyn Gadd. The family would like to thank the staff at Woodgrove Manor for their friendship and loving support as well as the Alzheimer’s Association of Nanaimo, Minds in Motion and family and friends here and abroad.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 28, 2017 at 1 pm Nanaimo Golf Club, 2800 Highland Blvd in the A.V. Macan Hall
