WHITCHURCH Rugby Club have launched a 'Drive to Survive' to keep the club going during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Covid-19 outbreak and the subsequent lockdown has impacted Whitchurch Rugby Club and the club have been unable to generate any income to the club yet still have outgoings that must be met.
To help cover this shortfall in income, the club has launched a 'five for five on five' event, which will see those associated with the club taking part in the exercise of their choice for 5km on July 5, with the aim of individuals donating £5 for their efforts.
Club chairman John Oakden also encouraged those taking part to photograph their efforts for a display in the clubhouse after lockdown.
"The coronavirus outbreak and the subsequent lockdown has impacted Whitchurch Rugby Club along with many families and businesses," said John. "We are not able to generate any income to the club yet still have outgoings that must be met.
"We are therefore going to have a small number of fundraising events that can be function with full social distancing within the government guidelines.
"The first of these is to be the five for five on five. Rosie Edwards has come up with this fantastic idea.
"On July 5, we are asking all playing members, VPs, mini and junior players and parents to take part in a 5k fundraiser.
"We are asking you to contribute £5 to our 'drive' account and then, on July 5, to run, walk, cycle, swim, limp, slither, wheelbarrow, crawl or hang glide in Whitchurch RFC dress.
"This can be full playing kit or just a jacket or bobble hat and take place anywhere you choose.
"We would like you to take photographs and post them on our website or print them and we will display all in the clubhouse when we are able to return to normality.
"Please try to take part, it will be fun and it will help our Drive to Survive.
