FIREFIGHTERS in Wem has issued some advice for residents looking to hold parties to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee next month.

Dozens of parties are planned up and down the country over the extended bank holiday weekend of Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5.

But Wem Fire Station is asking party hosts to consider how they hold them.

In a series of Tweets they encouraged people to remember that despite being granted road closures, they must allow room for all emergency vehicles to get through.

They added: "We are aware of a number of street parties which are being held for the Platinum Jubilee, which is fabulous.

"Please also bear in mind that any road closure you have applied for and been granted permission, that you still allow room for ALL emergency services to get through.

"Our advice is:

  • Set up tables along one side of the road - not down the middle
  • Have a plan on how to move people and items quickly if required!

"Hopefully you enjoy your party and have any unwanted [emergency vehicles] coming through."
