A WEM woman is walking 50 miles this month to raise money for a non-for profit Whitchurch organisation rescuing lost cats.

Kayleigh Harwood has currently raised £100 and hopes to reach £350 to help the Cat Assist Team Whitchurch (CATW) and she has currently completed 10.43 miles so far and will continue with the walk if she reaches 50 miles before the end of the month.

CATW, which is completely dependent on donations, recently had to close its doors temporarily due to rising costs and funding drying up.

Kayleigh has been recording the miles she has walked with her two dogs and she was motivated to raise money for CATW after seeing the organisation struggle due to lack of funding and with the costs of treating injured and sick cats.

She explained: "I had the idea a couple of months ago they are things charities do on Facebook every year.

"So I thought, I will do one for CATW because they are a small rescue and they rely purely on donations and they are really struggling at the minute.

"I thought it is one way to help."

Kayleigh said CATW help animals across north Shropshire and will also in need in Cheshire and Wales.

She said: "CATW help so many cats and kittens in need in our local areas and surrounding borders of Cheshire and Wales.

"It takes big hearts to cover such a large area especially when CATW is run solely on passionate volunteers and kind donations from their supporters.

"They really do care, for example, they closed their doors to any more intakes Saturday due to insufficient funds but still took in two kittens that needed urgent medical treatment resulting in yet another large vet bill.

"That is just one example as to why I’m fundraising for them.

"They just do not give up on cats and kittens.

"They encourage people to spay/neuter their pets (and vaccinate them) which is so important as rescues are overflowing with cats and kittens needing homes.

"As an animal lover and owner who knows how much small rescues are struggling with rising costs and intakes, I just hope enough people will sponsor me or share the fundraiser for CATW so I can be of some help."
