THE MP for Hanmer has again raised the need for urgent work in expanding the village's surgery with the leader of the House of Commons.
Simon Baynes, MP for Clywd South, spoke last week in the House of Commons to ask Penny Mordaunt MP, whether she would be able to to help speed up any work to expand the surgery.
Mr Baynes praise the 'excellent work' of the Hanmer Surgery, outside Whitchurch, and asked about the building of appropriate new surgery premises to support increasing patient demand.
Mr. Baynes said: "Over many years there have been discussions between the excellent doctor’s surgery in Hanmer in my constituency of Clwyd South and the Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board about building appropriate new surgery premises.
"Would my right honourable friend facilitate an opportunity for this to be discussed in the business of the house and join with me in urging the health board and the Welsh government to expedite these discussions so that the Hanmer surgery can meet the ever-increasing patient demand locally?”
Ms Mordaunt said that she would try to help where she can in asking the Welsh Government what it plans to do.
She said: “I thank the honourable gentleman for raising this.
"Clearly, in all parts of the UK, the NHS and Healthcare is under tremendous pressure. But compared to the one in 20 in England who are waiting over a year for treatment, it’s one in four in Wales.
"I know he is campaigning hard on this issue.
"In the meantime, I shall ask the department what more it can do to encourage the Welsh government and local stakeholders to bring forward these new services.”
Mr Baynes said that he was confident the right help would be given to help Hanmer Surgery expand to help meet increasing demand.
He said: "I welcomed the Leader’s statement and reassurance that she would raise this with the Department for Health and Social Care.
"I have worked closely with the Surgery and the Hanger Patient Action Group alongside my colleague, Mark Isherwood MS, since I was first elected Member of Parliament for Clwyd South three years ago.
"I will continue to raise this issue in the House of Commons as a priority.”
