A DIESEL spill from a jack-knifed lorry on a major Whitchurch road in the early hours of Wednesday morning led to six firefighter crews being called out.

A petrol tanker, which was empty, jack-knifed around 2.20am at the Heath Road roundabout on the A41.

An environmental protection unit was sent to the scene to clear up diesel which had spilled onto the A41 from the tanker's own fuel tank.

Crews from Whitchurch, Wem, Prees and Tweedale were sent to the scene to take part in the clear-up.

A Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Six fire appliances including the Environmental Protection Unit and the Incident Support Unit were mobilised from Prees, Tweedale, Wem and Whitchurch.

"Operations and Hazmat officers were in attendance, and also the police."

Firefighters were at the scene for around an hour and 20 minutes before a stop message was sent to control confirming no further assitance was needed.
