A WHITCHURCH man died from 'exposure to asbestos,' a coroner's court has concluded.
The inquest, which was held in Shirehall in Shrewsbury heard that retired mechanic Hilary Terance Roy Morris, originally from Liverpool, died on Friday, January 13.
The court heard Mr Morris attended his GP surgery in January 2022 after feeling unwell with a reduced appetite and referred to hospital.
The chief coroner for Shropshire Telford and Wrekin, John Ellery said: "A biopsy taken gave a diagnosis of peritoneal mesothelioma and treatment options were discussed with him.
"In January 2023, his conditions deteriorated and he was admitted to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
"Tests were carried out and discussions confirmed that conservative management of symptoms with best supportive care were the most appropriate option.
Mr Ellery said Mr Morris was transferred to the Severn Hospice in Shrewsbury for end of life care before passing away on the same day.
The chief coroner added: "Throughout his career, Mr Morris worked as a mechanic in various garages and he also sprayed vehicles.
"It is believed this is where he was exposed to asbestos.
"Mr Morris submitted a claim for compensation shortly after he was diagnosed which was successful."
Mr Morris was born on August 11, 1949.
He was 73-years-old when he died.
