PUPILS near Whitchurch had an exciting surprise as an RAF helicopter landed in their school grounds.
The helicopter, which is based at RAF Shawbury, landed in the grounds of St Chad's Primary Scool in Hanmer last weej much to the excitment of pupils who were shown around the helicopter and other equipment by aircrew.
The visit was organised by headteacher, Nicola Locker and a parent, Flight Lieutenant Knapp who is based at RAF Shawbury.
Mrs Locker thanked everyone involved in enabling the visit and called it a privilege to have the helicoper come to the school and and for serving personnel speak with pupils.
The headteacher said: "It was lovely to see the awe and excitement on the children and the staff faces as the helicopter swooped and landed on the school field.

"It is a wonderful memory that the children will remember, the staff knew it was going to be exciting, but it was even better than expected."
Mrs Locker explained that school pupils have been learning about the RAF in their history lessons.
She badded: "Year Five and Six children have been learning about the Second World War and the role of the RAF during the conflict as well as visiting RAF Cosford in the previous term.
"I’m told it’s not something the RAF do very often, so we feel very privileged indeed.”
