WEM Spring Market returned once again to the town with a wide range of products on sale for visitors.

The market was held in Wem Town Hall and Jubilee Square on Saturday, April 22 from 9am until 1pm.

It was organised by Wem Combine Harvesters which is an umbrella name for Wem Civic Society and Wem & District Garden Club.

Wem Civic Society secretary Shelagh Richardson said: "Last Saturday was cold and chilly but that did not deter shoppers from visiting Wem Spring Market, which was held in Wem Town Hall and on the Jubilee Square.

Whitchurch Herald:

"A wide range of food, drink, crafts and plants were available.

"The buzz of the market was back though it was clear that people were not spending at the level of a few years ago.

"However traders reported brisk business.

"Andy of Powell’s Pies sold out by 12pm and Berriew’s Cider and Apple Juice were as popular as ever.

"Newcomer, Federica Bernadi, of Truly Tea showcased a truly remarkable range of teas.

"Another newcomer, Nicola Chadwick, of Nicola Anne Illustrations’, said that she would be coming to future markets.

"Buzzy Bee and Wem Garden Club did a lively trade though most plants are behind the season.

"Wem Civic Society’s local history booklets sold, as did their preserves, blood oranges Seville oranges being particularly popular.

"The Civic Society stall also proved a focus for comments on local planning applications."

Shelagh added: "The deputy mayor, Councillor Rosemary Dodd, toured the market accompanied by Wem’s Dragon and St George.

"Shoppers on the Jubilee Square were serenaded by musicians from Wem Jubilee Band.

"The raffle was back and organised by Gill Glover of Wem Garden Club, who commented on the generosity of shoppers.
