RUNNERS in Whitchurch spent their coronation celebrations raising money for the town’s foodbank with a three-day relay!
The Whitchurch Whippets, whose members compete in races across the county, kicked off the celebrations in the dawn of Saturday, May 6 and went all the way through to midnight on Monday, May 8.
Aiming for an initial £1,000, the group has reached £1,300 already and with a week of fundraising still to go before the link is closed, the Whippets are hoping to reach a similar target reached in lockdown in 2020.
Alison Birch, on behalf of the running team, said: “The Whitchurch Whippets Coronation Relay was to raise money for our local foodbank.
“Whitchurch Whippets ran continuously for three days in support of Whitchurch Foodbank.

“Sarah Gill started the relay off at 5am on Saturday, May 6 and the Whippets continued the relay doing 45 minutes sessions through to midnight on Monday, May 8 for which Janice Eastwood was the last Whippet home finishing at Whitchurch Rugby Club in Edgeley Road.
“Many Whippets did more than one session – the enthusiasm of this club is second to none.
“All the money raised from this event will be donated to the Whitchurch Foodbank.
“The Whippets did a similar fundraising event during the Covid-19 lockdown and raised more than £1,700 for the group that helps people in need in Whitchurch.
“Please give whatever you can to help us and the runners who completed the relay raise another amazing sum in support of the work of the foodbank.
