A WHITCHURCH couple will be hosting a 24-hour workout next month to raise money for a dementia charity.

Skell Fitness owners Adam Ciesielski and Helen Chadwick will be joined by members of the gym when they host the fundraiser on Friday, June 9 for Dementia UK.

The event will also mark five years since he first opened the gym.

Adam was motivated to raise money for the charity after losing his grandmother to the disease.

Helen explained: "Adam lost his grandmother to dementia earlier this year, so we are raising money in aid of that.

"We will do a 24-hour workout in which the gym will be open for 24 hours where Adam and members will be training."

Helen spoke about her feelings about taking on a long challenge.

She said: "It is going to be exciting and fun. We will have a lot of food in the night.

"Members will be getting involved. We have got some crazy hours people will be coming in. It should be good fun.

"It is the first time we have done a big charity event like this. We have been wanting to do something for a while."

The couple is expecting a strong turnout to take part in the session.

Helen said: "We have got a good member base, about 60 at the moment.

"About half of them are going to be coming down and taking part during the day at some point and through the night.

"We will have people coming in at 1am and late evenings.

"Adam's family will be doing a session together as well."

Adam and Helen have a young son, Oliver and she spoke about how their son was never able to meet Adam's grandmother.

Helen said: "When I had Oliver she was already in hospital and sadly passed away a couple of weeks later."

Helen felt that the length of the workout would be the most challenging part of it.

She added: "It probably won't be the toughest but certainly the longest endurance challenge that members and Adam have done."

She continued: "We are hoping to raise £500 in total and we are starting to get some donations coming in.

"People have been really interested and we have got good support.
