An Olympic gymnast was on hand to help a children's trust near Whitchurch launch a charity walk to mark its 35th anniversary.

Wrenbury-raised Bryony Page, who won bronze on the women's trampoline in the 2020 Olympic Games, helped supporters get underway as they raised funds for the Wingate Centre.

The two-mile walk around the grounds of Cholmondeley Castle near Malpas took place on Saturday, May 20.

Fundraiser Jenny Monro, who lives in Whitchurch, was pleased with the turnout for the event and the money raised.

"We had support from Urban Eatz. Simon Williams from Hill Valley helped with the warm-up. The whole event was sponsored by Swansway Motor Group.

Jenny mentioned how the money will impact the centre based in Wrenbury which looks after children with a number of disabilities including cerebral palsy and autism.

She said: "It will make a huge difference. We need to raise over £150,000 each year for the centre. Every bit counts.

"We are always looking for money to go into the pot. Some people think it is as simple as paying for items. It isn't, it's paying for the gas and electricity which all cost a lot of money."

Marking 35 years since the centre opened added to the occasion.

Jenny said: "It is a nice way to celebrate the 35th for people of all ages and abilities and we are passionate about being inclusive for all.

"And allowing those who can't always access suitable fitness facilities to be able to.

"The walk did not just involve able-bodied people."
