THE committee dedicated to creating a special Christmas atmosphere in Wem has announced it is disbanding with immediate effect.
The Wem Christmas Lights Committee has been responsible for some amazing sights in the town in recent years, such as three camels in the High Street as well as TV star and comedian Greg Davies, but is standing down.
The news was confirmed by committee member Liz Broomhall.
She said: “This message is to let you know that after great consideration the committee of Wem Christmas Lights has decided to disband.

“As far as we know, Wem Town Council will gather a working party together and bring the Christmas lights and festival to Wem.
“We are all sad to finish and hope the celebrations and lights will continue each Christmas.
“Thank you to all who have supported us over the years, without you we could not have made it such a success.
“In accordance with the group’s constitution we have distributed any funds and assets.”
A spokesman for Wem Town Council confirmed that while plans for 2023 have not been decided, money has been allocated and that a working group has been established to move forward.
