FRIENDS and family of an organist came together to help her celebrate 75 years of playing this week.

Edna Parry was joined at Tallarn Green Chapel, between Wrexham and Whitchurch, on Sunday, July 16 to commemorate and celebrate her 75th anniversary of playing the organ there and at other churches she has played at during that time.

A spokesperson for the chapel said the celebration was enjoyed by all in celebration of the decades of music provided by Edna.

They said: “There was laughter and many smiles during the service taken by Rev Malcolm Lorimer.

“Edna had chosen the hymns – beginning with ‘All People That On Earth Do Dwell’ and finishing with ‘Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah’ – all of which were sung heartily and joyfully by the congregation.

OTHER NEWS:

“Those arriving before the service watched a projected reel of events that had taken place over the past 75 years and afterwards Edna took part in a short question and answer session about aspects of her time as organist.

“Then there was a presentation of a certificate and letter from the Methodist Church by Rev Lorimer, and a commemorative cushion and flowers from the congregation.

“A faith lunch followed, with contributions from many attending, giving Edna the opportunity to catch up with friends, some of whom were attending especially to join the celebrations.

“There was plenty of food to go around and the ladies of Tallarn Green made sure that no-one’s plate was empty nor cup awaiting a refill.”
