WHITCHURCH Rotary Club volunteers have teamed up with healthcare professionals to deliver three hours of blood pressure checks in the town.
And, from the highest public attendance in many years, a total of 108 men and women had tests done that could flag up possible health problems and save lives.
From that total, 91 showed acceptable blood pressure levels but 10 were advised to consult their doctor within the next month, and seven were warned to book a more urgent appointment within the week.
Graham King, president of Whitchurch Rotary Club, was delighted to help so many people and hopes the checks will make a difference.

He said: “We hope they will now seek more detailed medical advice and that the early warning helps them avoid one of the major causes of premature deaths from strokes and heart attacks that a blood pressure test can flag up so effectively.
The checks were carried out in gazebos at the Bredwood Arcade, outside Tesco, near White Lion Meadow.
Graham added: “The community involvement was amazing.
“Jones’s Coffee House sent hot drinks to help the volunteer team through the morning and £55 was received in public donations.
“The success of the project couldn’t be denied.
"Neither could the town’s appreciation, and both these things made it all the more worthwhile for us.”
