A NORTH Shropshire council has put a ban on non-residents from being buried in new graves at its cemetery.
Ellesmere town councillors voted in favour of the ban when they met for the first time following their summer recess on Monday, September 4.
They agreed on the new regulations to preserve limited space for people from the town at its Swan Hill cemetery.
However, existing graves with space for family members are still available.

A town council spokesman said: “Councillors voted to approve new cemetery regulations which will not allow people from outside Ellesmere town and rural parishes to be buried in new graves at Swan Hill, as the cemetery is almost full.
“Until new space can be allocated within the existing cemetery or land developed on a new site, this regulation will stay in force.

“The re-opening of existing graves and the interment of cremated remains for people from outside the town will continue.”
The council has previously warned that the cemetery is close to being full and had appealed for landowners to come forward with sites that could be used.
Ahead of the 2023 summer break, councillors said there would only be enough space for new graves for the next three years.
