HUNDREDS of people turned out to enjoy the second edition of the Farndon Soapbox Derby. 

Being held for the second successive year, the event was well received once again by locals, with hundreds of people lining the streets to catch a glimpse of the karts. 

The original idea originated during Covid lockdown as a way to support and celebrate the community and get back to ‘normal’... however, the event is a long way from that and is 'totally bonkers' according to organisers. 

Over 30 customised karts raced down Farndon High Street throughout the day (Sunday September 17) on what was a 'brilliant day'.

As of Sunday afternoon, over £23,000 had been raised in support of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, with organisers hoping to hit £30k, which would eclipse last year's total. 

There were food and drink stalls on offer for those in attendance and even the weather managed to hold off for the event. 

The return of the soapbox derby was welcomed by onlookers, with Rhys Davies saying: "We came last year and it was a brilliant day out, so once we heard it was on again we made sure we left the day free. 

"It's such a fun day, it's free to attend and you can have a drink and just enjoy them flying down the hill, what's not to like?". 

Another person added: "We've had such a good day, it's been amazing. There are not a lot of events like this around here so it's good to come out to them when they're on. 

"It's fantastic to see so many people come out in support of the event and hopefully they can raise a load of money for charity once again. 

"The more events we can have like this in the area the better really, let's hope it's back again next year."
