WHITCHURCH Cricket Club has been set a new target of £1,600 in the next 40 days in order to secure Sport England funding to repair the vandalised clubhouse.

The club, in Heath Road, launched a fundraising appeal for shutters to be placed on windows at the clubhouse following a number of attacks on the club by vandals.

But now that appeal has been boosted to the tune of £3,000 by Sport England, which supports grassroots clubs in the country.

However, that money will only be secured if the Shropshire Cricket League club manages to raise the remaining amount, which stands at around £1,600.

A club spokesman said: “We are delighted to announce Sport England has pledged to award us £3,000 should we meet our new target of £7,500.

“With your help and the pledge from Sport England, we are already at an amazing £6,305.

“If we do not meet our target then sadly we will lose the £3,000 from Sport England.

“So our challenge now is to further raise just over £1,600 in 40 days and we can’t do this without your support.

“Please support us.”

The need for fundraising has come after four different incidents of vandalism at the club over the last 12 months.

Included in this is smashing of windows and doors, with one incident leaving a spread of food meant for minor county cricketers at the ground covered in glass and had to be replaced at short notice.

Whitchurch CC will be looking to also install additional CCTV cameras and faces having to utilise club funds to pay for the work.

There are a number of limited offers included within the fundraising, such as specially-created Christmas cards from Audlem Printers at £5 per pack; one one-hour dog walk by a club member; discounted social membership; a discounted box of Belton Cheese at £20 minimum, among others.
