ELLESMERE Cricket Club is beginning to plan for the future by introducing major works it hopes to carry out once planning permission is given.

The club is seeking permission from the town council to begin exploring plans to carry out the major works at its facility.

The town council leases the ground to the Shropshire Cricket League club and members will be attending the full meeting of the council on Monday, February 5 to explain the plans.

The presentation is ahead of any potential planning application for the club – to be submitted to Shropshire Council – which would be developed with input and consultation from Ellesmere Town Council.

In an agenda item for Monday’s meeting, the club will highlight that potential future works will include building a new cricket pavilion, the levelling of the playing and surrounding areas, and installation of drainage to the entire area.

Future works would also include the construction of a new cricket square consisting of 10 match wickets; the creation of a car park and the installation of a three-lane enclosed netting practise facility.

Plans may also include the relocation of containers, builkding of a machine shed and cladding to match pavilion, among other works.

Councillors in Ellesmere will also be asked to consider a new head of terms for the lease, including providing permission for the club to allow the current and future clubhouse to be hired out for private functions.

The meeting will begin with a minute’s silence for former Ellesmere College headmaster Brendan Wignall, an honorary freeman of the town and husband of mayor Councillor Anne Wignall, after his death last week.

Other items on the agenda includes notice of a road closure in High Street from Monday, February 12 to Friday, February 16 for the installation of a manhole outside the Ellesmere Hotel.

Councillors will also be asked to consider forming an Emergency Action Group to co-ordinate a response to the risks faced as a community.

There will also be planning items for councillors to discuss at the meeting, which starts at 7pm.
