A SENIOR Whitchurch Shropshire councillor is calling on dog owners to show greater care and pick up their pets' poo after seeing an increase in concerns about abandoned waste.
Councillor Peggy Mullock represents Whitchurch North at the unitary authority and is also a former mayor in the town.
She has made the call following a recent survey that showed that residents are becoming increasingly worried about dog owners not picking up their animal’s mess.
She said: “As a result of a Neighbourhood Matters Survey a large number of residents have shown concern about members of the public allowing their dogs to foul in public places then not clearing it up.

“Could dog owners please take note that they are required by law to clean up after their dog – failure to do so can result in a fixed penalty notice being issued or possible prosecution.
“Dog waste can be disposed on by using the waste bins or by taking it home and disposing it in the black bins.
“As we are approaching the Easter holidays the children will be out playing in our parks so I would ask people to be especially careful as infection from waste can be very dangerous to them.”
