Simon Baynes, the Conservative parliamentary candidate for North Shropshire, welcomed the news that the UK government and Sport England have provided £138,400 in funding for the Wem Swimming and Lifestyle Centre.
He said: “I am delighted that Wem Swimming and Lifestyle Centre will benefit from £138,400 of investment from the government and Sport England.
“The funding is part of the government’s Swimming Pool Support Fund which has so far invested £80 million into 442 swimming pools across the country since last year.
“The new £138,400 investment will deliver Photo Voltaic (PV) panels which will help the leisure centre relieve financial pressure by cutting running costs.
“Alongside the Swimming Pool Support Fund, the Government is investing over £300 million in grassroots sports facilities including football pitches and tennis courts of which Baschurch FC North Shropshire was a beneficiary.
