A WOMAN who died on the A5 near Gobowen last January meant to take her own life, a coroner has ruled.
Debra Elaine Evans, from Dudleston Heath near Ellesmere, fell from a bridge over the stretch of the A5 between the Gledrid Roundabout and the Gobowen Roundabout on January 28, 2024.
The inquest into her death – adjourned from February – heard that an eyewitness driving to his workplace along the road spotted her ‘on the wrong side of the bridge’.
The court heard from his statement, read by coroner’s officer Michael Caesar-Hondon, that he then saw Mrs Evans fall.
Despite passers-by then paramedics attempting to provide medical assistance, she died at the scene. The road was closed for several hours.
Shropshire coroner John Ellery said that Mrs Evans ‘had a long history of mental health issues’, adding: “I have sufficient evidence to reach a conclusion that her death was because of suicide.”
