A RURAL community outside Whitchurch is holding a village fair as a way of saying thank you to Midlands Air Ambulance for its response to the crash that killed Felix Davies in 2023.

The White Lion, in Ash Magna, is a community asset pub where Felix, who died on the A530 in Cheshire in April 2023, used to work.

Charlotte Jacob, landlady of the White Lion in Ash Magna, since November 2023, has created the fair as a way to raise money for the air ambulance which she says helped save the lives of four others, including staff from the pub.

And she added that it will also be a celebration of Felix and how ‘well-liked’ he was, but to give back to a service she says rural communities desperately need.

“We took over the pub at a time when the pub was very much grieving,” she said.

“Since then, we have done events celebrating Felix’s life with his family.

“Though we didn’t know him personally, we feel like we do from all the stories that we’ve heard about this fantastic and brilliant boy.

“But we also have staff that were involved in the accident too and they have had to carry on with their lives.

“That’s down to the air ambulance’s actions on the day.

“We have four fantastic people who are still with our community because of the work the air ambulance did, so it’s a thank for that and for Felix.

“The day is about coming together as a community to say thank you.

“We’re a farming community here and the air ambulance is something that we all rely on when things go wrong.

“While we’re remembering Felix, it’s about being together and thanking the air ambulance for the four people we still have in our lives.

“We think we will be doing it again next year too and for the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service who also attended the scene.

“And it’s about doing something for our community as well, we need days like this for people who need it.”

The fair will run from 11.30am until 4.30pm on Saturday, June 29 and is a joint effort between the pub and Ash Village Hall.

Whitchurch town mayor Councillor Andy Hall will be on hand to officially open proceedings and he will be joined by representatives from the air ambulance.
