ONE-third of the new Dairy Queen team for Cheshire will represent Malpas after she was included as part of the new trio.

The Cheshire Federation of Young Farmers Clubs held its year-ending celebrations last Sunday at the Royal Cheshire County Showground in Tabley.

The outgoing Dairy Queens Hannah Reade (Stretton YFC), Charlotte Kinsey (Nantwich YFC) and Olivia Wain (Congleton YFC) held a Hawaiian-themed ball before Malpas YFC member Anna Welland was voted in as a queen for 2024/25.

She was joined by Emma Hodgson of Beeston YFC and Chloe Bradley-Boffey of Congleton YFC and will make their debut at the Royal Cheshire Show in mid-June.

Co-chairman of the county federation, Thomas Oulton, said the day was a huge success and thanked his fellow chair Emily Hamand.

He said: “It was an amazing day and, as ever, Rally Day showcases what YFC does best.

“It brings everyone together from across the clubs and the county.

“Emily and I have loved being your co-chairman and to see YFC support the continued work of fantastic charities like RABI, and also The MPS Society and The Christie this year, is a great reminder of what we can achieve together.”

Thomas and Emily will stand down next week, having themselves raised more than £10,000 for charitable causes at their Chairpersons’ Charity Concert earlier in the year.

More than 700 people were in attendance to see all 11 clubs battle it out for the esteemed ‘Moody Bowl’ trophy.

An action-packed day, it started with the homecraft competitions, which saw the finest home baked cakes, bakes and crafts of all kinds be brought along to be displayed and be judged, as well as fresh flowers arranged for the themes this year of ‘Great British Weather’ and ‘Great British Farming’.

A spokesman said: “It truly was an incredible display of Great British produce.

“Outside, the showground was full of young farmers competing in sports, including cross country, rounders, tug of war, and even some novelty sports too, with the infamous ‘ball bobbing competition’.

“The field also showcased the many talents of its members from within the welding, woodwork, design from scrap, art and photography competitions, as well as silage and cereals judging, even tractor driving and mini digger competitions for members to take part in as well.

“The Moody Bowl was presented to Congleton Young Farmers, with Middlewich YFC and Sandbach YFC second and third, respectively.

“Remember, you don't have to be a farmer to be a Cheshire Young Farmer.”
