A WEEKLY class to keep older people fit and less prone to falls is set to launch this summer in Whitchurch.

The class, organised by Energize Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, is designed to help people over the age of 60 to maintain and improve strength, and balance, to allow them to remain independent and prevent falls.

From August, the weekly class will run from Bargates Hall, in Bargates, costing £5 per session and lasting for an hour.

OTHER NEWS:

A spokesman for the group said: “Energize Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin has created Elevate postural stability classes which are available for people aged 60 and over.

“They are designed to improve physical strength and balance to help with everyday life.

“The classes are aimed at those who feel a bit unsteady on their feet or have lost strength or confidence.

“Since launching in 2018, the classes have already helped more than 1,000 people across Shropshire.

“They are delivered by local, specialist, and experienced instructors qualified in postural stability instruction and are designed to be safe, beneficial and most of all enjoyable!

“Many of the exercises can be achieved seated or standing so a range of abilities can take part.”

According to Energize, the class can help boost confidence, increase independence, improve strength and balance for carrying out daily activities and will also provide a fun weekly social activity too.

The spokesman added: “At the start of your course, you will be given your own home exercise booklet which contains easy to follow exercises to be done outside of your sessions.

“By taking part in the home exercises, you will increase your chance of improving your strength and balance and seeing a really positive impact on your daily life.”
