A primary school pupil from near Malpas has won a prestigious literary prize for her poetry.
Eilidh Whelan from Tilston has picked up the Cheshire Prize for Literature for a poem she wrote which will be published as part of an anthology.
Eilidh is a year five pupil from Tilston Primary and won the the Prize for Literature- Primary Poetry Category with her entry 'This Year' – beating hundreds of other pupils to the prize.
She will be attending a ceremony in November where she will read her poem in public before having it published by the university of Chester as part of an anthology of work.
Headteacher Kelsey Mort was delighted for Eilidh and said: “Eilidh was one of 400 entrants and we are delighted that she won.
“Eilidh attended an awards ceremony last week and was presented with a certificate and £50 voucher and has been invited to attend an event in November where she will have the opportunity to read her poem out ahead of having it published by University of Chester Press in an anthology.”
