MORE than half of a derelict building which last served as a care home in Whitchurch was lit up by fire after an incident on Monday night.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crews from Whitchurch, Wem and Prees were sent to Edgeley House and Court, in Edgeley Road, at around 9pm.
A spokesman for SFRS confirmed that an aerial ladder platform was part of the equipment used to tackle the blaze, while an operations officer was also in attendance.

They said: “Crews used breathing apparatus, an aerial ladder platform, a hosereel jet and small gear to put out the fire.
“It was a derelict building more than 60 per cent on fire and it was extinguished by fire service personnel.”
A stop message was sent to SFRS control around four hours later confirming no more support from other fire crews on standby was required.
