A Whitchurch animal rescue attended “one of the most horrific situations” they’ have dealt with after a kitten was injured in a trap.

Cat Assist Team Whitchurch (CATW) quickly took the kitten to a vet after it was severely injured after being caught in a rat trap that was laid out for them.

“We woke up to one of the most horrific situations we have encountered," the charity posted on social media.

“Yesterday (Wednesday, July 24) we were alerted to a kitten in a bush on our page and we were in the process of getting a trap down there.”

“In the meantime, someone private messaged the girl who had posted and offered a trap. They went round and set the trap up (which was out all night) and the cat was trapped."

OTHER NEWS:

CATW have since managed to get the kitten emergency veterinary care and are monitoring the situation.

The charity said it is currently trying to find out if there was any malicious intent and will be “reporting the incident to the correct authorities”.

CATW added: “We don’t even know how long the kitten was left like this. This baby could have been like this all night and with the rain, that must have so awful.

“Needless to say, as soon as we saw the picture, we didn’t care about anything else other than saving this kitten.

“She was rushed in and is now at the vet and we will do everything we can to help.

“We are sure people can be well meaning but please only help if you know what you are doing. The consequences of helping without knowledge and without the correct equipment are this.

“Please consider helping this baby. This shouldn’t have happened but we will pick up the pieces, like we always do.”
