Excitement is building as a record shop is set to open in Whitchurch town centre.

The Vinyl Countdown is set to open in Green End on August 17 as it moves from its current home in the neighbouring Antiques Emporium.

Owner Mark Fulton has said the move has been delayed after a previous deal to open a shop in January fell through at the last minute.

“Luckily I was able to retain my unit in antiques emporium and carried on trading,” said Mark. “I have built up quite a good level of regular customers who came back and my figures have grown.

“So, riding on the crest of a wave the shop next door to the emporium became available. I have actually physically moved in now and will be opening on August 17.”

Mark has said the opening will be “low key” but is planning on offers for those looking to get started.

“I will be doing promotions on the opening day which will try and bring in youngsters to start getting them into vinyl,” he said. “There’s a fair few of them already but I will be doing a deal with a record player, a cleaning set and a record of your choice with a discount.

“I’m buying in more new release modern vinyl opposed to reissues of ACDC, which I sell lots of but that’s not necessarily what a teenager is after.

“I’m hoping to get them into vinyl rather than Spotify, which is a bug bear for me because I used to be in a band and as a band you literally get 0.00001p per stream – a band can actually get money from selling something physical.

“We’ll have t-shirts, books, mugs, signed memorabilia, action figures, frames for records cleaning sets, badges and Bluetooth speakers.”

Mark has said he will be carrying over the friendly welcome you get at the current shop.

“I have been successful in the emporium because there hasn’t been a kill section at the till or anything,” said Mark. “By  milling about in the shop, I have been able to help people find people find what they are after and I have decided to carry that scene through to the new shop.”

Before the shop opens later in the month Mark has album art for sale at Jones Coffee House this month.

“I am currently doing an exhibition in Jones Coffee House this month,” added Mark. “In their shop there is nine or ten classic albums in frames with information about how the picture became so famous .”
