A PONY with its leg stuck in a gate had to be rescued by firefighters in Wem, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has confirmed.

Firefighters from Wem were sent to the town after reports of the animal stuck in the five-bar gate at around 3pm on Monday.

A vet was also on call to help the animal, which was checked over fire personnel and a vet after it had managed to become free before they arrived.

“Also at the scene of the incident was a vet.

“There was one pony with its leg stuck in five-bar gate freed prior to fire service personnel’s arrival.”

A stop message was sent to SFRS control at around 3.25pm to confirm no further support was required.
