STORM Lillian has caused chaos overnight with power cuts in north Shropshire and Cheshire reported by SP Energy Networks.

There are currently two power cuts reported by the power company, with postcodes around SY12 9 impacted around the north and west of Ellesmere until 4pm on Friday.

There is also a power cut in Cuddington, near Malpas, in Cheshire, with engineers say they hope will be up and running again at around 11.30am.

There is also a power outage on the outskirts of Whitchurch, towards Fauls Green while a lot of areas around Shrewsbury and up to Wem have been affected including around Little Ness, near Nesscliffe.

An earlier power cut in Wem has since been restored.

A spokesman for SP Energy confirmed the heavy storm, with winds of up to 75mph, has caused the power cut.

They said: “Storm Lilian has caused significant damage across our network.

“Our engineers will be continuing to investigate and repair the network and we currently expect the power to be back on in stages by 4pm.

“Please speak with us if you are aware of any damage to the network or if this information does not apply to you.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.”
