WHITCHURCH has taken its place on a very prestigious document – BBC Radio 3's musical map.
The town’s place was confirmed on Tuesday morning on Petroc Trelawny’s Classical Breakfast Show when he read out an email from Whitchurch resident Jan Thornhill.
The musical map is being ‘pinned’ with composers and musicians from across towns, villages and cities across the UK and then their music is played across the airwaves.

Jan emailed the show and proposed Edward German, the Whitchurch-born composer.
Petroc said: “Jan writes in and proposes Edward German who was born in the ‘Back Street’ Vaults pub where there is a blue plaque now.
“His father was a brewer and a preacher, which is an interesting combination.

“He was born German Edward Jones but changed his name while he was at the Royal Academy of Music because there were other students with the surname Jones.”
Petroc played music written by German for William Shakespeare’s Henry VIII when he was music director of the Globe Theatre from 1888.
His Shepherd’s Dance piece was then played on air by Petroc and added Whitchurch to the musical map.
