PLANS to build two sheds for livestock plus machinery and other items on a farm near Whitchurch were submitted to Shropshire Council last week.

The plans, for land lying to the southeast of Catterals Lane in Broughall, near Whitchurch, were put to Shropshire Council planning officers on Friday, August 30.

A design and access statement, prepared by Paul Watson at Halls, was submitted with the application and said that animal feed and other equipment would also be stored in the agricultural sheds but did acknowledge that it was also, in part, a retrospective planning bid.

The statement said: “The land is already in use and occupied by cattle as part of the applicant’s agricultural livestock business.

“The application is part-retrospective as the applicant need is acute.

“Two previous applications have been submitted, and in summary, (one) was turned away by council due to location of the building, and council highways suggesting access rearrangement.

“And the other continues to accept the need for agricultural facilities, with email correspondence confirming the existing access can be retained and used for the site.”

It added: “The need for the agricultural sheds is acutely required in connection with the continued use of the land for cattle livestock, and for the safe and secure storage of associated feed, hay, silage, machinery and equipment as part of the agricultural business.”

The statement said the business owns breeding sheep as well as growing lambs with some kept on to continue breeding while it also houses calves as part of its cattle.

The farm also needs machinery such as tractors and telehandlers and to also hold feed for the animals.

The application also included an updated transport statement which it says is in response to a request for more information from Shropshire Council highways.

It concluded: “Overall, the proposal is appropriate in scale and design, taking into account the local context and character of the landscape area, with no adverse environmental or amenity impacts.

“We encourage Shropshire Council to approve this planning application.”
