ELLESMERE Town Council says it will try to set up a meeting with a broadband company Freedom Fibre over plans to install telegraph poles.

Councillor Geoff Elner, who was absent from last week’s meeting, emailed town clerk Joanne Butterworth to say that he was in conversation with the company.

Councillors heard that the company has agree to a meeting to discuss whether telegraph poles ‘are necessary’ in supplying broadband in the town.

Councillor agreed to call the meeting and also to set the parameters i.e. who to invite to take part and whether Helen Morgan, North Shropshire MP, and Ofcom should be informed if Freedom Fibre don’t attend.

The council said it will also try to solicit comments from members of the public who may be impacted upon by the installation of the poles.

The meeting, which was held at Ellesmere town Hall last week, also confirmed that Crowdfund Shropshire, a fundraising charity, will be discussed in more detail at its October meeting.

Miss Butterworth said there are potential projects that could be funded prior to February 2025.
