A Malpas-based choir has purchased new robes with sponsorship money.

The Advent Singers, directed by experienced choral director Stewart Smith, bought the new garments thanks to support from the Malpas branch of the Co-op.

The choir, which performs services and concerts locally and further afield, has a busy schedule ahead.

They will perform at Chester Cathedral on Sunday, October 27, and at St John's Church, Chester, for the Advent Carol Service on December 1 at 6.30pm.

A fundraising concert of seasonal music will take place at Malpas High Street Community Church on December 6, featuring 'Take 2 Jazz Ensemble and Friends'.

The choir will also hold a carol service at Burleydam Church on December 16.

Looking ahead, The Advent Singers are set to perform at Chester Cathedral for Epiphany on January 6.

The choir's performances can be tracked on their Facebook page, 'The Advent Singers'.

Mr Smith, the choir's director, previously gained recognition as the director of music at Abbey Gate College, Chester.

Under his guidance, the Chapel Choir became famous for its tours of UK cathedrals and numerous European tours.

Most recently, the choir performed in the cathedrals of Liverpool and Chester and at St Margaret's Betley near Crewe.
