A THIRSTY thief helping themselves to milk off the step of a Wem nursery has been told ‘you are stealing off children’.
Staff at Wem Playmates Nursery, based on the town’s business park in New Street, had taken to social media to warn residents of the theft of a four-pint of milk meant for the youngsters who attend.
However, an unknown thief has been taking the milk in a spate of thefts that have left staff at the business both perplexed and angry.

Kate Copnell, who works at the business, called on the thief to ‘pack it in’ or on residents to give up a name so they can call police.

She said: “It’s happened a few times.
“It happened a few years ago then it stopped but it’s become more frequent.
“They’re helping themselves to a big four-pint bottle – it might not seem much to people but it costs a lot of money for a business of our size.
“And, much more importantly, they are stealing milk off the children who come to this nursery.
“They used to steal off the step which meant they had to walk through the gate and right up at the front so we had the delivery changed to the back.
“They know they’re stealing it off a nursery because they can see the sign.
“This is milk meant for young children and we say to you ‘leave it alone’.
“It would be nice to know that if they know who it is then tell them to stop or give us the name and we will take it to the police so you don’t have to.”
Kate also added since the post on the Wem Community Page on social media, the reaction from people in the town has been a positive one.
And she also highlighted one specific member of the Wem community who has consistently helped replace the milk.
