WHITCHURCH Rotary Club is still celebrating after picking up their 10th bowls win in 15 years.

The club’s bowls team picked up victory in the District competition to maintain its dominance in the competition with a one-sided win in the final.

Captain Walter Schafer, one of two players to play all rounds out of the eight players used, was there at the end to lift the trophy.

They beat Wellington Rotary in the final by 3-o to finish first ahead of 26 Rotary Clubs took part  from all over Staffordshire, Black County and Shropshire.

Walter said: “We beat Wellington in the final by three games to nil.

“There were 26 teams in the competition and we competed in five rounds to win it and we played the final at Edgmond.

“We used a combination of eight players through the rounds and myself and Don played each round.

“We have won the trophy 10 times in the last 15 years and on two occasions.

“However, it wasn't competed for because of Covid for two years so actually 10 times in the last 13 times its been played for.

“We competed against teams from Staffordshire Shropshire and the Black Country.”
