A Whitchurch-based operatic and dramatic society is bringing a classic musical to the stage.

Whitchurch Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (WAODS) will present the family favourite Annie at the end of October.

The production will take place in the sports hall at Sir John Talbots School, which will be transformed into a traditional end-on theatre layout with raised seating.

Annie, which is based on the cartoon strip Little Orphan Annie, is set in 1930s New York and features the characters Annie, Sandy, and Daddy Warbucks.

The musical celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, the same as the formation of WAODS.

Since their last production, The Wind in the Willows, the society has been busy preparing for this new venture.

The school sports hall will have a professional set, lighting, sound, and costumes to create an immersive experience for the audience.

Performances will be held from Wednesday, October 30 to Friday, November 1 at 7pm each evening, with a matinee on Thursday at 1pm and a final performance on Saturday, November 2 at 4pm.

Tickets for the opening night are £12, while other performances start at £13, with a family ticket for four at £48.

Tickets can be purchased at waods.net, by calling 0333 666 3366 (booking fee applies), emailing waodsboxoffice@gmail.com, or at the pop-up box offices in October.

Advance tickets will also be available at the door from 30 minutes before the show starts.
