Two new Townsmen of Wem have been bestowed with the honour, rewarded for their work in bringing joy to the town and its history.
The two men picked up the honour from Wem Town Council on Friday, October 25 with Oliver Richardson and John Roberts being named for their work for the area.
A spokesman for Wem Civic Society, for whom Oliver has been synonymous with for many years, said both men were fully deserving of the award.

They said: “Oliver Richardson, chairman of Wem Civic Society, was rewarded for his services in support of the built and natural environment of Wem.
“Part of this involved, and still involves, reminding councillors of both Wem Town Council and Shropshire Council of the importance of the White Horse to the town.
“His part in the initiation and management of Wem Spring and Harvest Markets played a part.

“John Roberts was awarded his honour for his work with the youth sections of Wem Jubilee Band and WADOS - Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society.
“John's preferred instrument is the Euphonium – a much under-rated and crucial part of any band.
“He expressed surprise that he should be thanked for work that he found so rewarding.
“Two well deserving recipients of the award from the town.”
The spokesman added that Oliver was hoping that this might give him the right to graze sheep on the recreation ground.
Members of Wem Town Council were on hand to witness the awarding of the Townsmen awards, as well as Shropshire councillor Edward Towers who helped present Oliver with his award.
Councillor David Parry, mayor of Wem, presented the men with their awards and paid tribute to the dedication they have shown to the town.
